New year, new beginnings

Here are just a few of the pets and their grateful families touched by your support.

Dear aze,

Last year was a challenging year for many, but throughout this time we have been bolstered by the most dedicated group of supporters and animal advocates—our Rescue Squadwho have allowed us to stretch, adapt and meet the needs of the pets in our community.

Compassionate friends like you have truly powered our work—enabling us to extend critical programs that allowed us to save thousands of lives and keep hundreds of families together. In a year when we have seen how an uncertain economy has impacted pets and their people, you ensured that Seattle Humane could answer the call for help when a pet in need came through our doors, or a family reached out for help.

Because of your support, we are celebrating the new year and the new beginnings you have brought to so many families. Here are just a few stories of lives touched by your generosity last year.

From fearful to fear free, Gibson is living his best life

Gibson

Arriving at Seattle Humane covered in hair mats and feces, Gibson had never known the love of a human hand. He was one of many Goldendoodles dumped in Whatcom County by a disreputable dog breeder and needed a family with patience to help him blossom. Fortunately, it wasn’t long before he found his paw-fect match.

My sweet Gibson is doing fantastic! Almost all of the anxiety and distrust he had around me and my family is gone. When I first brought him home, he wouldn’t come near anyone, and kept to himself. But now he can’t go five minutes without kisses and belly rubs!

Together fur-ever, thanks to you!

Cookie

Cookie’s guardian reached out to Seattle Humane when her son’s emotional support dog needed lifesaving surgery. Cookie has a kidney birth defect and needed surgery to remove one of her kidneys. The cost estimate was $5,000, and the surgery would let Cookie live a longer, happier life. The family was desperate and used every channel they could to raise funds but still came up short. Through a donor-powered fund, Seattle Humane was able to help cover the rest of the cost of the surgery.

Cone of shame withstanding, Cookie has healed from her surgery and so has the family. Cookie can continue to provide much- needed emotional support as only she can thanks to your generosity.

bran-new Muffin

Muffin

Mama cat Muffin, formerly known as Mui Mui, was surrendered to Seattle Humane after losing three of her kittens at birth. Then came a welcome surprise! While en route to Seattle Humane, she gave birth to a tiny kitten. Muffin had a complicated delivery from start to finish but thanks to lifesaving care made possible by friends like you, she pulled through and was reunited with her kitten, Mouse. Now the two are thriving against all odds with loving adopters.

Muffin fits in beautifully with our family. She and one of our five-year-old daughters, Nora, get along like gangbusters. Muffin is great about all the “blanketssocks whose mate got lost in the laundryNora puts on her. Muffin has also made great friends with her older cat sister, Abby.

Better together

Better Together

National pet wellness holidays like World Rabies Day help raise awareness about the importance of vaccinating your pets. Seattle Humane provides affordable and accessible vaccinations, checkups and supplies for the community year-round through our Wellness Clinic and programs like Pets for Life.

Wilbur and Lilly’s guardian had just exited homelessness and was doing everything she could for her pups, but it was hard to provide health care and food at times. When a neighbor told her about our World Rabies Day event and free vaccinations, she rushed over with Wilbur and Lilly. Unfortunately, Seattle Humane had reached capacity for the day and was not accepting any more clients. After following up, our team learned that the family qualified for our Pets for Life program.

Not only did Wilbur and Lilly get vaccinated, Seattle Humane staff provided transportation for both pups to get the health care they needed along with food and pet supplies.

All these pets and their families are celebrating the new year—happy, healthy and together—thanks to you.
