Stokely was in a Roswell, New Mexico shelter for 11 months before Seattle Humane’s Lifesaver Rescue program saved his life. He was on the New Mexico shelter’s euthanasia list and no other rescues wanted to take him because they thought he looked too scary.

When he arrived at Seattle Humane, he had scratches on his face, four broken teeth, canine teeth that needed to be removed and he was severely underweight. After three hours of dental work by Seattle Humane veterinarian Dr. Shearer and holistic shelter care, he was adopted by a loving family. Stokely is now weighing in at a healthy 73 pounds and is the best brother to his sister Sophie.

It is always heartwarming and inspiring to receive updates for these pets and hear how they are settling into their new families — updates like Stokely’s:
