In September, The Bahamas were devastated by Hurricane Dorian, the strongest hurricane on record for the island nation. Today, thanks to support from our community, Seattle Humane is caring for more than a dozen cats and kittens from The Bahamas.
Wednesday night, we greeted a plane carrying this special cargo who were previously surrendered or found as strays prior to the hurricane. None of these cats were separated from their families during or after the hurricane. Instead, this life-saving flight helped bring pets already housed at the Bahama Humane Society, allowing the facility the resources to help more lost and stray pets.
This life-saving transfer from a disaster-struck area is one of several we've helped with this year. In March it was pets from Alabama shelters affected by tornadoes and, in June, pets displaced by the record-breaking floods in Arkansas.
More than 3,750 pets have been transferred to Seattle Humane this year through our Life-Saver Rescue Program -- and we stand ready to support shelters devastated by this year's California wildfires. |
