October eNews | How You're Making a Difference and Meet Ken & Cole!

From life-changing care at our Community Clinic to Pies for Pups, there's so much to celebrate this month!

Breaking Barriers to Veterinary Care One Family at a Time

PSI

Richard first visited Seattle Humane at one of our pop-up clinics at the Burien Community Center on November 9, 2024. At that time, Richard brought in Lucy and Nacho, along with six super cute puppies all piled in a box! It turns out that Richard and his family had rescued Nacho and Lucy, and Lucy was already pregnant when they came into their lives.

It was important to Richard that the puppies get their shots and microchips before heading to their new homes, and we were able to spay the three female puppies a few weeks after seeing them at the clinic.

Richard kept us in mind, and when he saw that we were back at the Burien Community Center this September, he made sure to bring his pups to see us again! Snagging one of the last walk-in spots of the day, Richard brought Lucy and Nacho for their annual vaccines...and also brought along one of the puppies, Kilo, now a rambunctious 1-year-old dog.

Richard shared that they love the people who work and volunteer at the clinics, and that “you can tell they want to be here.” He said it was a great experience and that everyone is so friendly. Veterinary care can be expensive, and he shared that he really appreciates these services to help his family keep their pets healthy.

Stories like Richard’s highlight why access to care is so important. Through the support of the PetSmart Charities Incubator Grant, Seattle Humane is working to improve access to veterinary services for Latino families in South Seattle. This work is especially critical to highlight during National Pet Wellness month in October, when we are reminded of the importance of preventive care for pets. By offering services that are accessible, affordable and culturally responsive, we hope to break down barriers and ensure more families—like Richard’s—can keep their beloved pets healthy and at home.

Meet Ken and Cole!

Ken and Cole are friendly 5-year-old guinea pig brothers looking for their new home. If you’re trying to figure out who is who: Ken is tan and white and Cole has the long, luscious grey and white locks. Both are very cuddly and don’t mind being handled. They enjoy snacking on veggies, roaming in their enclosure and relaxing in their hidey-igloos. And if you’re looking for pets who are great listeners, these guys love being talked to. Help share Ken and Cole on Facebook and Instagram.

A Legacy of Love: How One Thoughtful Gift Gave Noodles a New Beginning

Noodles

When Lesa Taylor planned for her future, she did something extraordinary. Though she had never donated to Seattle Humane during her lifetime, she quietly included us in her estate plans—alongside one special request: that we help find a new home for her beloved cat, Noodles.

Thanks to Lesa’s foresight and compassion, and with the help of her estate representative, we welcomed Noodles into our care. A sweet but shy middle-aged kitty, Noodles spent just one week at our shelter before capturing the hearts of a loving new family. Today, she’s known as Tendi and is thriving in her new home. Her adopters shared, “She’s settling in beautifully and is already a beloved member of the family.”

We’re honored to be part of stories like Noodles’—and we’re incredibly grateful to Lesa for making it possible. Lesa’s story reminds us that you don’t have to give during your lifetime to make a lasting difference. Planning ahead is a powerful way to care for your loved ones and support the mission you believe in. And it’s easier than you might think. Through our partnership with FreeWill, you can create a legal will—for free—and make arrangements not only for your loved ones, but for the causes close to your heart.
