Meet Lavender and Rose!

Lavender and Rose are a bonded pair of sweet and easy-going rabbits. These 1-year-old sisters came to Seattle Humane in January and are looking for a home where they have space to hop and tunnels to explore! Both are very mellow, enjoy interacting with people, and love to snack on all kinds of fruits and vegetables. During their time in a foster home, they were able to socialize and make new friends with kids and adults alike. Because of their longer stay at Seattle Humane, their new family can name their own adoption fee.Help share Lavender and Rose on Facebook and Instagram!

Providing Vital Care, Together

Katsu

On July 19, Seattle Humane partnered with Alimentando al Pueblo, a Latino-led, culturally responsive organization in Burien, to host an outdoor pop-up pet clinic. Made possible through the PetSmart Charities Incubator Grant with vaccines provided by our partner Petco Love, this event brought vital veterinary services, food and supplies directly to families in the neighborhood—all at no cost.

With the support of volunteers, our veterinary team, and Alimentando al Pueblo staff and community members who supported with on-site Spanish interpretation, the clinic created a welcoming, inclusive environment for pet owners. Over the course of the morning, the team cared for 20 pets, providing vaccines, microchips, parasite prevention, and scheduling spay and neuter surgeries for four pets, all at no cost to their families. Families also went home with food and supplies, with the extra resources left behind for Alimentando al Pueblo’s food bank to serve even more community members.

One of those pets was Katsu, a 2-year-old Yorkie mix. His family brought him for a wellness check, where he received updated vaccines, a microchip, and some chicken-flavored food—his favorite treat! Now, thanks to this program, Katsu is protected and his family has peace of mind knowing he can always make his way home.

This successful first-time clinic with Alimentando al Pueblo reflects the power of collaboration. Together, we’re building a more equitable model of care, one that centers dignity, trust and community voice.

Foster Spotlight: Alexis M.

Alexis M. was raised with animals in her life and believes strongly in the healing power of pets. Fostering with Seattle Humane is a way to help get pets to their people and build that amazing human-animal bond.

“My grandparents always had pets growing up, my grandma, specifically,” she says. “She’d take in every stray and get them back into good health. We had everything from a variety of birds, ferrets, flying squirrels, an injured opossum at one point and, of course, dogs and cats. When I was very young, they had taken in a pregnant Jack Russell, and one of her favorite stories to tell is finding me as a toddler sleeping in the dog bed with the mama dog and puppies. My mom kept Bud from the litter, and he was with me from two years old nearly into high school.”

For people who didn’t grow up with a grandma who ran an unofficial rescue out of her home or go through the work of training a dog-selective canine companion like she did with Bambi, Alexis has this advice about fostering.

“Take your time and don’t let the stress of the first day with a new foster overwhelm you,” she says. “Allow yourself, as well as the pet, time to adjust. You will face some that may not be a great fit and that’s okay. But, on the other hand, you will create bonds and memories you’ll never forget.”

New Path Unlocked: Seattle Humane at PAX West

PAX

Seattle Humane made its debut at PAX West this year, and what a debut it was. You might be wondering — why would an animal welfare organization show up at one of the biggest gaming conventions in the country?

Welcome to The Game Changers, featuring New Path Unlocked, our new digital-first fundraising campaign. It’s designed to bring together content creators, gamers and online supporters to raise funds for Seattle Humane while leaving a lasting legacy. Every dollar raised helps unlock engraved bricks and pavers that will line the pathways of our Bellevue campus. Think digital impact, permanent paw prints.

With the help of our community, we didn’t just survive PAX Westwe thrived. Thanks to our “kitten cuddle puddle” (starring Owen, Olivia and Pancho) and our trusty gumball machine (sponsored by Double Dagger Studio!), we raised $11,730! Merch sold out, crowds cheered and the energy was electric. We even had our pals from Borderlands 4 donate some giveaway items for people who donated to Seattle Humane, and Larian Studios who stopped by for some kitten cuddle time!

A huge thank you goes to our staff, volunteers and everyone who came by. We even snagged a mention in Seattle Mag: “If you were looking for something softer and more cuddly, Seattle Humane had the winning experience of PAX with the adorable and adoptable kitten playpen.”

The game has just begun, and with big plans already in the works for next year, we’re excited to see where this path leads.

Even Small Spaces Can Help Big Dogs

We're fortunate that many of the pets who come through our doors only stay a few days before heading out with their new families. However, some pets stay with us longer, often due to medical or behavioral needs that benefit from extra supportand that's where fostering comes in! Seattle Humane sends a variety of pets out to foster, but we are consistently in need of more foster homes for large dogs, who tend to stay longer in shelters than other types of pets. Many folks feel they don’t have the space to house a large dog, but even the smallest apartment is still bigger than a kennel at the shelter. It doesn't have to be a long commitment, eithereven just a few days in a foster home can be greatly beneficial to their health! If you have space in your heart for a big pup, head to our website to learn more and get started.

Board Spotlight: Pamela Keenan Fritz

Seattle Humane Board Member Pamela Keenan Fritz had a passion for philanthropy even as a child, doing what she could to support her local animal shelter.

“When I was a kid, we had a shelter in my town in the north of England. After my first visit, in elementary school, I started fundraising locally. I did jobs for my neighbors after school and on the weekends, always hopeful that I might bring home a kitten or three.”

Pamela found her way to Seattle Humane by way of Expedia, which used to be headquartered up the hill from the shelter in Eastgate.

She is now serving on the Governance and Risk & Audit Committees as a member of the Seattle Humane Board of Directors. It’s not just her fellow board members that encourage her but a depth of talent within the organization.

“I think our greatest strength by far is the team, the people who I’ve met, both our staff and the army of volunteers I see every time I walk through the door,” Pamela says. “I think the challenge ahead is to focus on our mission and how we’re going to deliver it. I am excited to help Seattle Humane continue to thrive and grow our impact in supporting more pets and people.”
