Howard’s Pupdate

enews-march25-howard

Howard arrived at Seattle Humane last fall in desperate need of help. Found abandoned in a dumpster near a truck stop, he was brought to us by our compassionate friends at the Doney Clinic. The young pup was emaciated, lethargic and battling juvenile cellulitis—also known as puppy strangles, a painful skin condition on his nose and face. His recovery has been a long and challenging one, but we are thrilled to announce that Howard is looking and feeling much better now!

On his darkest day, Howard was met with love, care and compassion. Thanks to our dedicated veterinary team, his loving new family and the support of our generous donors, this resilient pup has turned his life around.

Howard is now thriving, surrounded by both human and dog friends. He has developed a love for sunshine, snow and even oranges! It's a joy to see him so happy and healthy after all he's been through.

More than a Shelter: Building Relationships & Breaking Down Barriers

enews-march25-clinic

We returned to the Burien Community Center in January for one of our recent community clinics as part of the ongoing work to increase access to care for Latino folks in South Seattle. This clinic was not just about offering veterinary services, but about fostering a sense of trust and security within a community that has historically faced barriers to pet care. These off-site clinics are made possible because of the multi-year grant we received from PetSmart Charities in 2023, aimed at addressing some of the most significant challenges in Latino communities that impact the ability of people to care for their pets and keep families together.

Thanks to our dedicated veterinary team, led by Seattle Humane’s Community Medicine veterinarian, Dr. Hadar Friedman, we provided essential care to 50 pets—25 dogs and 25 cats. Our team administered vaccines, microchips and a variety of other treatments. The clinic also supplied families with pet food and supplies, and scheduled several pets for spay/neuter surgeries in the coming weeks. It was a perfect example of how these clinics are more than just medical care—they are about building relationships, breaking down barriers and creating a community where people and pets alike feel safe and supported.

Lyle: A Fun-loving Dog Ready for Adventure

enews-march25-featured pet

Lyle is a fun and adventurous 3-year-old pit bull mix who has been looking for a family at Seattle Humane since arriving in the Pacific Northwest through a Lifesaver Rescue transfer out of Louisiana back in November. Lyle loves to play with squeaky toys and will even bring them along on his walks. He has plenty of energy for taking his new family on adventures in the great outdoors. His foster parent says he’s very affectionate and eager to learn, and his new family will want to continue his training when he goes home. Lyle did well living with teens in his foster home. Due to his size and play style, he would do best in a home with no small children. Lyle’s new family can name his adoption fee and put those savings toward lots of chew toys and his ongoing training!

If you can’t bring Lyle home, you can still donate to his care or share him with your followers on Facebook or Instagram!

Foster Spotlight: Jonna

enews-march25-jonna

Our March Foster Spotlight couldn’t wait to start fostering cats for Seattle Humane and has a dedicated space in her home where she’s helped more than 40 forever grateful felines prepare for their final journey home! Jonna’s fostering stories even inspired her parents to volunteer at their local shelter, and they might even encourage you to open your hearts and homes to a shelter pet in need.
