Make a Difference During Day of Giving

On Thursday, September 19, we invite you to be a part of Seattle Humane’s annual Day of Giving, one of our biggest fundraising events of the year! Your support is critical in helping us reach our goal of $175,000, ensuring we can continue providing lifesaving care, support and advocacy for pets in need.

A Story of Love: Joey’s Journey
Meet Joey, a 7-year-old dog who was rescued from a shelter in Los Angeles County and adopted from Seattle Humane. Joey has brought endless joy and laughter into his family’s life. As his adopters share:

"Joey’s not just a pet—he’s a beloved member of our family. He’s goofy, loving, and our home wouldn’t be the same without him."

Recently, this family faced the heartbreaking loss of their beloved cattle dog, Gracie, another Seattle Humane alum who was adopted as a puppy 13 years ago. Her gentle spirit and loving presence will be deeply missed.

This family has chosen to honor Gracie’s memory and Joey’s continued happiness by generously sponsoring part of our Day of Giving match. Their support means your donation on September 19 will go even further, helping more animals find their forever homes. Join us in making stories like Gracie and Joey’s possible.

Joey was adopted from Seattle Humane and his family is sponsoring part of our Day of Giving match.
Your Gift Can Make a Difference
Every gift—big or small—matters. By donating, you’ll be supporting everything from critical medical care for pets to finding them loving homes, educating future animal advocates, and offering financial help to pet owners in need.

Together, we can create a brighter future for thousands of animals. Show your support by donating here, and don’t forget to check our social media on Thursday, September 19, for heartwarming stories and adorable pets.

It’s YOU to the rescue—let’s make this Day of Giving unforgettable!

Leadership Announcement

Seattle Humane’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce Jessie Swisher Spiers as the organization’s new Executive Director. Many of you already know Jessie, who has been with Seattle Humane as our chief advancement officer since January 2021. During her time with the organization, Jessie has fostered an engaged donor community, clearly communicating the impact Seattle Humane supporters have on the health and wellbeing of thousands of animals in our care each year. Learn more on our blog.

Prepare Now for Potential Emergencies

September is Disaster Preparedness Month—an essential time to ensure your pets are ready for emergencies.
  • Start by assembling a pet emergency kit with at least three days’ worth of food, water, medications, and a first aid kit. Pack their favorite toys and comfort items too.
  • Make a disaster preparedness plan that clearly outlines what each member of your household needs to do in the event you need to evacuate your home or shelter in place. Also consider what you will do if your pets are at home and you are away during an emergency.
  • Find your city’s emergency management plan to learn where pets can be sheltered in the event of a large-scale disaster and research pet-friendly hotels.
  • Practice different emergency scenarios with your household so everyone knows how to quickly transport and care for your pets, and participate in community drills with your pets when possible.
Seattle Humane offers Pet First Aid Basics and Pet First Aid and Disaster Response workshops throughout the year to help community members prepare for and prevent emergencies. Join us for an upcoming workshop and learn more!

Featured Pet: Peanut!

Peanut has been a shy guy since he first came to Seattle Humane on a Lifesaver Rescue transfer out of Lacey, Washington back in February. This 11-month-old shepherd mix warms up immensely around other dogs and would love to have a canine companion or two in his new home. So many of his dog friends have been adopted since he arrived, and it’s time he was too! Peanut would prefer to live in a quiet neighborhood with a yard where he can run and play without too many distractions. Peanut has done incredibly well living with Seattle Humane foster parents, who report he becomes more playful and relaxed over time and with support from his four-legged friends. Check out his video on YouTube, and share his posts on Facebook or Instagram!

More than a Shelter: Serving the SeaTac Community

Candy (left) and Kira (right) were two of the 47 pets seen at the SeaTac clinic.
Thanks to the PetSmart Incubator Grant, Seattle Humane recently partnered with the SeaTac Community Center to host a free clinic offering veterinary care and resources. A total of 47 pets were seen, including 30 dogs, 15 cats and two guinea pigs! The veterinary team administered 30 microchips and 75 vaccines. We were also able to provide 31 pets with flea/tick treatment and 34 pets were signed up to receive fully subsidized spay/neuter surgeries. We also shared over 170 pounds of pet food and plenty of supplies to support SeaTac area pet parents.

Angelica’s pup, Candy was one of the pets seen at the clinic. They left the clinic with the peace of mind that comes with updated vaccines, pet food and supplies, and plans to have Candy spayed at our Schuler Family Medical Center.

We are proud to bring services like these out into the community and thankful for support from the PetSmart Incubator Grant and generous donors like you that allow us to continue saving and serving our region’s pets.

Foster Spotlight: Naira

This month, we are excited to be shining a light on Naira, one of our amazing foster parents! Naira always answers the call when our Foster team needs someone to care for a litter of puppies, a puppy undergoing intensive medical care, or even orphaned puppies. As a child growing up in the Soviet Union, Naira was familiar with caring for her family’s dogs, but fostering wasn’t as common. Learn more about Naira and fostering at Seattle Humane!
