Gus Goes Home

Gus is a big sweetheart with meowvelous fashion sense. His previous owner didn't know why he was so skinny and yet so ravenous, but our vets were determined to figure that out. Gus was diagnosed with diabetes, and our expert veterinary team spent several months finding the right treatment plan for him and getting his weight up. We knew he could be waiting a bit longer to find a family willing to assume his ongoing care, and that’s okay. We're dedicated to providing the medical care every shelter pet needs to thrive—regardless of how long it takes. Thanks to support from animal lovers like you, Gus received the care and attention he needed for 124 days until his new family took him home last week!

This is the sort of outcome we want for all the dogs, cats and critters who come through our doors, and we are grateful to our community for supporting pets like Gus during their journey to a happier, healthier life.

Want to spread some holiday cheer to shelter pets waiting for their families?
A gift of any amount will provide hope, help and a brighter tomorrow for every pet in our care.

Featured Pet: Kingsley

Kingsley is a 2-year-old pit bull/bulldog mix who has been looking for a home since June. Many people find his looks intimidating, however he is actually a very friendly dog who loves going on walks, cuddling on the couch and playing with chew toys. Kingsley has been in a loving foster home for two months now; he gets along great with the two teens in the home and has perfected multiple tricks and cues, including sit, shake, up, down, wait and come. Kingsley also enjoys playing dress-up, whether it’s just for fun or getting ready to go out in the rain. Kingsley can be selective about the dogs in his life and was briefly fostered with catsthey were less interested in him than he was them.

Kingsley's adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous donor.

More Than a Shelter: Fighting for Pet-Inclusive Housing

Seattle Humane is continuing to work with the ASPCA and other organizations to fight for pet-inclusive housing for Washington pet owners. Two of the main barriers we want to address through legislation and education are affordability and accessibility. While Washington is considered one of the more “pet-friendly” states, pet owners must navigate obstacles and additional costs like pet deposits, pent rent and weight and breed restrictions. We believe these are unjust burdens for renters to bear and often result in them having to make heartbreaking decisions. Seattle Humane is 100 percent committed to keeping families together.

Foster Spotlight: Grace Domel

This month, we’d like to highlight one of our rockstar foster parents: Grace Domel. Since joining the program earlier this year, she has cared for some of our favorite long- timers like Maxine, Raider, and, now Riley. Living in an apartment in the busy Ballard neighborhood, Grace is living proof that having large, even reactive, dogs in an urban location is possible! We appreciate all that she has done to provide a break from shelter life for our pets.

Board Spotlight: Nate King

You could say loving and caring for animals is in board member Nate King’s blood. He’s been around all species of animals his entire life, thanks to animal-loving parents. He became particularly fond of dogs after a lucky pittie named Lola came into his life at age 14. Now an executive on Amazon’s Investor Relations team, Nate focuses on helping his three canine children, Louie, Mali and Winston, become the best pups through active training and exercise. Nate also recently welcomed a human child into the family and is enjoying life with his wife at their new home in Everett, Washington.
