Life-Saver Rescues Ramp Up!
These are busy days for Seattle Humane as our pet population increases with recent life-saving transfers. Following the devastating and deadly winter storm in Texas that knocked out water and power for so many of its residents, Seattle Humane answered the call for help from Houston SPCA. We teamed up with Three Little Pitties All Breed Rescue to raise funds and transfer more than a dozen dogs to the Pacific Northwest, where many have already found warm and loving homes. Most recently, our team took the lead in taking in more than a dozen Mississippi cats and kittens when they landed at Boeing Field on March 5, a flight facilitated by the ASPCA. Luckily for these cuddly cats, it’s been warming up here in Western Washington! Transfer flights from Hawaii’s overcrowded animal shelters are ramping up as well, maintaining our long-standing support with our partners across the Pacific.

Bunny Clinic
Seattle Humane’s Vet Services department was bursting with bunnies last week, as we hosted a very special Bunny Clinic. The patients? Ten of the more than 200 bunnies and critters rescued by Seattle Animal Shelter in an animal cruelty case in West Seattle last fall. They needed to be spayed and neutered before becoming available for adoption. Performing surgery on bunnies is a delicate undertaking that requires a high level of skill, but our Vet Services team had the privilege of working alongside Seattle Animal Shelter vets Dr. Jennifer Bennett and Dr. Sarah Mantovani. The two not only volunteered their time to supervise the Bunny Clinic, but also used this as a fantastic learning opportunity for our Seattle Humane veterinary staff — expertise that was invaluable. Following their surgeries, the 10 bunnies were made available for adoption!
Foster Parent of the Month

Seattle Humane is fortunate to have hundreds of dedicated foster families, and starting this month we want to give them a special shout-out! We are beyond excited to recognize Barry Scott as Foster Parent of the Month for March of 2021. Barry has fostered over 100 cats in the 13 years he’s been fostering with Seattle Humane. He also volunteers for our Pet Food Bank, delivering pet food and supplies to families in need each week. As a foster parent, Barry’s specialty is in helping our fearful and behaviorally challenged cats. Learn his secret to success as a “cat whisperer” here.
Our Wellness Clinic is Open!
Our new Wellness Clinic, located inside The Schuler Family Medical Center, is officially open for business and ready to help pets and their families in our community! It’s an integral part of our Community Medicine program and our shared belief that people and their pets deserve access to high-quality and affordable veterinary care. Wellness checks, vaccinations and microchips are a new reduced-cost service we offer to income-qualified families. Toe nail trims and flea treatments are available too. Critical Support for Local Pet Families
Elmo the rat and Nala the dog
Calls for help come in to our Pet Resource Center every day from families desperate to keep their pets, but struggling to pay for supplies, medical care or an emergency veterinary bill. Pets like Elmo, who was fighting an upper respiratory infection, and Nala, who needed a life-threatening tumor removed. For these pets and hundreds of others, the Pet Owner Assistance Fund was there to help. Established last year by long-time Seattle Humane supporters Anne and Jack Fontaine, the goal of the fund is to help keep pets with their loving families by offering the critical resources these families need — everything from medical care to short-term boarding, pet supplies and medication. Since its start, the fund has provided more than $70,000 in support, with much of that covering emergency veterinary bills.
With so many pet families in crisis right now due to the pandemic, the Fontaines have generously pledged $10,000 as a matching gift to the Pet Owner Assistance Fund. We need your support by April 16, 2021 to help meet the match. Your gift today has the power to change lives and preserve the loving bond so many families have with their pets.

Senior Cats ‘Feline Energized’ in New Home
Pictured on the left, 8-year-old Timber (now Pepper) came to Seattle Humane with her bonded pal 12-year-old Sir Purrs Jackson (now Pumpernickel). They were adopted Nov. 27, 2020.
“Wow, I cannot believe it’s only been three months. I feel like I’ve had these lovely beings forever. Pepper and Pumpernickel are both very healthy and sticking well to their diets. Although they are both older and each face health issues, you could never tell just by spending time with them. Pumpernickel has the energy of a kitten, while also being extremely intelligent and aware of his surroundings. Pepper is also playful, upbeat, and extremely brave — she has even made friends with some other cats in our apartment complex and loves meeting new people, who she views as potential belly rubbers. They are both so special, and I feel entirely lucky they found their way to me. Thank you so much!” — Cassie
