April is all about new beginnings

This Monday was a miracle. Rewind 343 days when Squiggles came to Seattle Humane. Unlike other exuberant puppies, Squiggles was terribly frightened of the world. Squiggles had suffered abuse, was terrified of men, and heartbreak was all he knew. Squiggles had a long way to go to learn he was safe and loved.

Our shelter staff and volunteers jumped in to teach this sweet boy that life can be great. Seattle Humane staff worked with him every day to desensitize him to his fears and triggers. Squiggles grew braver and made friends. Eventually he was ready for our Foster-to-Adopt program where he finally met his person. Squiggles' foster dad and now adopter named him Rusty. Rusty spent 340 days with us, a long time for a dog under 2. But now he'll have the lifetime of love and home he deserved all along.

Thanks to you, Seattle Humane can give pets like Rusty the chance to overcome their challenges medical and behavioral   for their new beginnings. With some time and TLC, anything is possible.

April Pet Spotlight: Meet Trudeau!

Trudeau-1.jpg

Meet Trudeau, a 6-year-old Labrador Retriever! Trudeau came to us when his owner had to move and could not take him. He's understandably subdued in the shelter setting, having previously lived in a home. His foster mom reports that he's gentle, affectionate and calm in the house. We are looking for a patient adopter who will take the time to understand his needs and be his best pal. Trudeau can live with adults and dog-savvy teenagers but he must be the only dog in the home. Trudeau is currently in a foster home but you can call Seattle Humane at 425-649-7563 to set up a meeting!

Are you a leader of the pack?

We're excited to announce the launch of our new donor program, Leader of the Pack. Leader of the Pack members are compassionate and generous animal lovers whose gifts provide the foundation of the life-saving work we do. They contribute $1,000 and more in a calendar year, and by doing so are eligible to enjoy special opportunities for engagement and experience first-hand the impact they are making on the lives of animals at Seattle Humane. For more information about becoming a Leader of the Pack, contact Lisa Huang, Major Gifts Officer, at 425-274-1507 or email LisaHuang@seattlehumane.org.

What you may not know about giving to charities this tax season

Are you 70 1/2 or older and required to make a minimum distribution from your IRA? Typically, required IRA distributions are taxed. But you can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a favorite charity or cause, such as Seattle Humane, without paying any income taxes on the money. And any amount, large or small, can be given under this provision at any time of year before December 31. To learn more, click here or contact Scott Fraser, Esq., Major and Planned Giving Director, at (425) 373-5387 or scott@seattlehumane.org.
