Happy New Year! Seattle Humane celebrates promising years ahead

Our first full year in the new Eastgate shelter was one for the books! In 2018 alone, we were able to help 7,000 pets in need, including thousands of animals transferred from other shelters in Washington state, all of the way to California, Florida, Texas and beyond. With our new facility open at last, we were able to resume popular programs and events that were on hiatus during construction years, including our dog training classes, children's summer camp, and our Adoption Blitz, among others. We recently brought back our small mammal adoption program too! We've gone to new heights to advance our cause with our Over the Edge fundraiser last summer (back in July this year!), and disaster relief responses throughout the summer and fall. Cheers to more growth and adventures in 2019!

Is last year a blur of activity for you? Check out highlights from 2018 here. Whether you've adopted your pet/s from Seattle Humane, volunteered at the shelter or donated to our cause, you all helped us save lives! Thanks for making our work possible year after year. Let's do it again!

We will host a shelter open house in the coming months stay tuned for details!

January is National Train Your Dog Month - sign up for classes!

Dog training classes are officially back at Seattle Humane! As many adoptive families already know, most dog adoptions at our shelter include 6 weeks of on-campus training classes so we can get you and Fido started off on the right paw! Dozens of pups have graduated from our training programs already. Enroll your pet in one of our upcoming classes and prepare for extra bonding time with your pet in 2019.

What's New?

  • Dog and Puppy Training 101 Seminar: This is a prerequisite to our Puppy Manners class and is also free and open to anyone in the community who would like to attend. This class covers positive reinforcement training, the clicker method, how dogs communicate, and how to address common behavior problems.
  • Our puppy classes are "rolling enrollment," which means new puppies can join any time. Your puppy can get started right away! Puppy classes include puppy play, socialization exercises and manners training.

We currently offer puppy and dog manners, a specialty class for shy dogs, and a continuing level class, Dog Manners 2. See dog training courses and dates here.

More fun for the kids coming up Midwinter Break!

Need something fun and engaging for your kiddo during Midwinter Break? Join us for Animal Adventures Camp, Feb. 18-21. We offer four days of activities for youth ages 8 to 12. Kids will spend the week learning the value of animal companionship, proper pet care and handling, and how they can help shelter animals in need, all while having a blast!

Camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Feb 18-21. Aftercare is available for an additional fee from 3:30 to 5 p.m. You can register for a single day or full-week camp.

January Pet Spotlight - Meet Queen Athenabeana!

 Queen_1.jpg

Say hello to your royal highness, Queen Athenabeana! This 6-year-old sweetheart (long live the queen!) would enjoy having her own "castle" and a family to share it with. As a queen, she enjoys a good nap on the couch or a soft blanket to burrow into. She has a very calm purr and will rub against your legs when she's feeling more comfortable or looking for attention. Queen Athenabeana has done wonderfully in her foster home. Her foster parent said, "She makes waking up early so much easier. She is very affectionate and fluffy. I love that she goes under any blanket you present to her." Grooming will be a must for this beauty, but her regal coat is the softest in all the land.

Want to take her home for a trial period? Queen Athenabeana is in our foster-to-adopt program. Ask our Adoption Advisors for more information. You can reach our adoption department at (425) 649-7563 or adoption@seattlehumane.org.
