December eNews: open for end-of-year cheer at the shelter!

Updates from Seattle Humane    December 2018 eNews Finishing strong in 2018 In November we jumped in to help our animal welfare partners in California after devastating wildfires tore through the state. On Thanksgiving, Seattle Humane's staff and volunteers sent dozens of animals out to foster care and prepared the shelter for new arrivals. We have transferred nearly 100 pets from wildfire-affected regions and are prepared to accept as many as 300 California transfers over the next month. So far we've received pets from Los Angeles to Yreka, California. We are not taking in pets separated from their owners in the wildfires. We are only transferring pets who were already homeless and awaiting adoption in California prior to the wildfires. Seattle Humane and other local shelters are working together to alleviate space in California shelters so stranded and recently homeless pets have somewhere to go that's close to home. Thank you to everyone who has made our relief efforts possible by donating, volunteering and sharing our social media posts to spread the word. Ready or not, that to-do list must be piling up. Make sure you snuggle with your pets for some stress relief. Whether you are looking for a tribute gift to remember a special pet or animal lover in your life, a 2019 calendar, or a new furry family member, take a minute to see our recommendations!     December Pet Spotlight - Meet Rosemary!   Meet Rosemary, a 2-year-old reserved young kitty who needs a home with patient people to help her reach her full potential. Rosemary enjoys the company of other cats and would do well in a home with a confident feline who can serve as a role model for her. Rosemary's favorite game is hide and seek and she loves to curl up under her snuggly blanket. She will do wonderfully with a family who will shower her with love and lure out her adorable charms. Ask Seattle Humane's adoption team about our foster-to-adopt option! All of our cats go home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Each pet will go home with a certificate for a complimentary veterinary examination. PLUS, most cat adoptions include 30 days of pet insurance from Trupanion – a great way to start off on the right paw! Puppies in Probate is back Dec. 11 Did you know your dishes, your car, your furniture and your pets will pass to your next of kin, unless you make thoughtful arrangements about who will care for your furry family members? To learn more about how to care for your pets when you pass, we have the program for you! On December 11, we’ll be presenting our “Puppies in Probate: Caring for Your Pets in Your Estate Plan” program during two sessions in the Gene Colin Education Center.
