Updates from Seattle Humane   September 2018 eNews   New Record, First Anniversary We broke our record! We had our most successful month EVER with a total of 778 adoptions in August 2018! This success coincides with our one-year anniversary in our new shelter. Back in August 2017, our staff, volunteers, and community supporters were busy moving shelter pets into the new facility and adjusting to our new home. Within days of opening our doors, Hurricanes Harvey and Maria blew through the southern U.S. and we were called to action: put to work right away to make room for hundreds of transfered shelter pets from disaster-stricken regions. We continue to make our best use of the new space to save more pets and complete more families. Here are a few words from Seattle Humane's CEO David Loewe at the one-year mark. “While the calendar tells me it has only been a year, the past 12 months have both flown by and felt like an eternity. With all that has changed we have not lost sight of what is important – a culture of caring and providing a voice and a helping hand to homeless pets.This is what it is all about and why we are all here. Attention young families: Did you know that children ages 5-10 can practice their reading skills at Seattle Humane? Sign up for the Kitty Literature Program. Children can boost their skills and confidence by reading aloud to our adorable adoptable cats – they don't mind mistakes and love the company! This program is available every week Mondays through Fridays for 20-minute sessions.
