Seattle Humane mobilizes for hundreds of transfers from hurricane-affected areas
Seattle Humane is part of a network of shelters working with national animal welfare groups on a large-scale natural disaster response for Hurricane Harvey. We are prepared to take up to 100 dogs and 200 cats from Texas shelters to relieve overcrowding and open up space, resources and temporary housing for pets displaced by the storm to stay until they can be reunited with their families. Transfers will be ongoing and the first pets arrived on Aug. 30. Watch our Texas transfer dogs take their first steps off the plane and into our new facility. Ways to help: To donate locally: - Donate to Seattle Humane's Disaster Fund to help transfer, care for, treat and place animals who come to us due to natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey. We're settling into our beautiful new home!
We did it – after 7 years of planning and fundraising and nearly two years of construction,we've finally moved the animals into our new, state-of-the-art facility! Seattle Humane’s capital campaign co-chaired by Kaycee Krysty, Patty Barrier, and Daryl Russinovich – dubbed “Animal People Can” – raised more than $28 million for construction of a three story shelter, adoption center, and veterinary teaching hospital to serve 10,000 animals every year. The day before the new shelter opened for adoptions, major campaign donors and shelter staff members had the honor of walking pets across the "bridge" into our new shelter. Check out everyone's reactions on moving day and media highlights below.

New Seattle Humane Facility opens in Bellevue - KIRO 7
Rescue pets make the move into new $28m Seattle Humane - Seattle Refined Since opening our doors in mid-August, we’ve completed over 400 adoptions! With the bulk of moving madness behind us, our pets and humans alike are enjoying their beautiful and spacious new home. Expansions and upgrades are everywhere you look. On the bottom floor, adopters can find the admissions office and dog kennels. Upstairs on the main level, we have our adoption lobby, cat adoption rooms, and the new Schuler Family Medical Center. Seattle Humane now even has its own Mud Bay in the adoption lobby – nicknamed the “Mudlet” – which carries pet food and retail items for adopters. All proceeds at this Mud Bay benefit Seattle Humane. The third and top floor will be used for various events, dog-training classes, volunteer training, staff offices, and more. With the final stages of construction underway, visitors will need to use Seattle Humane’s new temporary entrance on SE 32nd street in Bellevue rather than entering on SE Eastgate Way. Demolition of the old shelter to make room for a new parking lot is currently in progress. Seattle Humane’s new "Walk of Fame" – a pathway inlaid with bricks and pavers from adopters honoring their pets – is scheduled for completion by the end of the year, when we will also be hosting our Grand Opening Ceremony. Stay tuned for details! In the meantime, adopters and fans alike are welcome and encouraged to visit any time they like. Thanks to all of our incredible donors, caretakers, volunteers and staff who made this dream come true! Ask your vet to volunteer for our clinics!
We are in great need of Volunteer Veterinarians to assist low-income HIV/AIDS and cancer patients at quarterly clinics for health and wellness of their animals. Vets are not committed to multiple clinics. These clinics focus on basic wellness and include an exam by DVM, vaccines, nail trims, ear cleaning and possible dental scheduling for future dates. These clinics are not intended for emergency care or surgical procedures. Seattle Humane can also provide medications related to the visit (including flea treatment or dewormers). The intent of the clinics is not only to ensure health and wellness of each animal, but also to prevent surrender of animals to the shelter due to inability to pay for basic animal care. When: November 7, 2017 (tentative) Where: Regional Animal Services: Kent (in interim until Seattle Humane can utilize new space) Time Commitment: 5-6 hours We would be very grateful for any help or referrals to help these wonderful folks and their animals!
