Dear aze,   Now is the season when we start to see an increase in calls from shelters across the country asking Seattle Humane to take in as many puppies as we’re able. Some of the puppies are very sick and in need of round-the-clock care like Wanda and her siblings.   Wanda, Vision, Loki and Thor arrived last week with a Lifesaver Rescue transfer from Texas, emaciated, dehydrated and severely anemic. One of their siblings didn’t make it during the long trip. Wanda could barely move on her own, relying on the support from our staff to hold her up. The veterinary team worked hard to make the pups feel better, even administering an emergency blood transfusion to two of them from shelter resident Big Hunk.    After spending the night with veterinary staff for continuous care and monitoring, they were feeling much better the next day. These little survivors are now gaining weight and getting lots of snuggle time in foster care.     Thank you to our amazing veterinary team, foster families and compassionate donors for saving their lives.    We’ll see many more sick puppies and kittens in the coming months. We never know exactly when we’ll get the call, how many pets will need help and what condition we’ll find them in. GiveBIG for Shyanne

Worth the wait: Shyanne's story by Seattle Humane foster volunteer Karla G. Shyanne was suffering.    When I picked Shyanne up at Seattle Humane, my first thought was, “What a poor little creature.” She walked very slowly, wasn’t very energetic, and she spent most of her first few days sleeping. Her fur was patchy, with bald spots and the skin underneath was red. She wasn’t potty trained, and she absolutely hated being confined in her crate.   Shyanne’s true personality shines through.    As I got to know her, and she learned the crate is where she gets her meals, a warm bed and treats, we’ve been able to figure out her triggers. She gradually improved and began to stay in her pen a few hours at a time. She also learned potty training like a champ!    Shyanne now plays around like a puppy and makes fast friends everywhere she goes.    Worth the wait.    It hasn’t been easy, but hearing her snoring in a warm comfortable bed makes it all worth it. I hope one day to see her with a full coat and with a loving family that will give her the life she so deserves.  PUPDATE: Shyanne and Karla’s wishes both came true when Shyanne was recently adopted! Shyanne is an excellent reminder that while most transformations don’t happen overnight, they are worth the wait. We are so grateful to our foster volunteers and supporters for helping improve the lives of pets in need each and every day.
