Our Rescue Squad Delivered. Literally!

Our Pet Food Bank is now filled to the brim (left) and providing meals to clients like Josie (right) and her three cats.
Sometimes, a simple bowl of kibble is the glue that keeps a pet and their family together. With the generous support of donors, Seattle Humane’s Pet Food Bank provides more than 82,000 lifesaving meals in our community each month—allowing hundreds of pets to stay safe at home and out of the shelters.

Last month, we sent out a message on social media that the Pet Food Bank was critically low on food, and as a result we had to suspend our normal walk-up hours. Within days, our Pet Food Bank was full thanks to donations of pet food and supplies—so full that we were able to assist more than 30 other shelters and rescues in need of support!

The generous donations we received will help clients like Josie. Josie saved three kitties from being abandoned by a neighbor. As a senior, it’s difficult to stretch her monthly budget to cover the increased cost of food for herself and her kitty companions. With the Pet Food Bank providing meals to help close the gap, she can continue caring for her sweet kitties in her home.

Double Your Impact to Help Pets in Need

Friends like you are an important reason why we can save vulnerable pets and give them the care they deserve. And right now, your support will go twice as far to ensure we can continue to say YES to every pet looking to us for hope and healing. For a limited time, friends of Seattle Humane are offering to match your gift—up to $50,000.

The need for Seattle Humane’s help is only growing, right when our resources have been stretched thin with the rising cost of daily care and operations at our shelter. Please seize the moment and help us ensure no pet goes without the care they deserve. Thank you for your steadfast love for the animals!

Get Your Tickets for Tuxes & Tails

Join us for the can’t-miss paw-ty of the year at our annual Tuxes & Tails gala on Saturday, May 18 at Fremont Studios! This spectacular evening features our beloved pet runway show, with an opportunity for guests to interact with pets throughout the evening. Our event chairs, Heather Dolin and board member Peter Segall, invite you to join our amazing community of animal advocates and pet parents in support of the cats, dogs, and critters at the shelter and in the community.

Seattle Humane is more than a shelter - we are the region's pet resource center, serving nearly 90,000 pets and people each year. Your support of the 2024 Tuxes & Tails gala will help us sustain the human-animal bond and support pets for a lifetime, even those who never come to the shelter.

Even if you can’t be with us at the gala, you can be part of Seattle Humane’s bright future by making a gift in support of our community programs that serve pets and the people who love them. Get your tickets and make a Fund-a-Need gift today by visiting TuxesandTails.org.

Featured Pet: Nala

Yes, we do have puppies, but have you met Nala? This good girl has 7 years of experience being fun and cuddly. She loves to play fetch, tug, go on walks and road trips to new places for walks and, when the weather is better, go for a nice swim. Puppies come and go so fast around here, and this lovely lady has been waiting with all her pittie patience for months now. Ask an adoption advisor for a meeting to see what an older dog with a few gray hairs can do!

Estate Tax Changes & You: Learn from Experts

Big estate tax changes are coming. Starting at midnight on December 31, 2025, lifetime estate and gift tax exemption thresholds are set to be cut in half–potentially leading to a sharp jump in some estates' tax liability. Fortunately, there is still time to prepare for these significant changes!

Together with our partners at Schwab Charitable, Seattle Humane is hosting an in-person, free informational event at the shelter about these upcoming changes on April 22. In a panel discussion with Schwab’s experts, you’ll learn a few possible options for reducing your estate’s tax burden, including how some of those options could translate into a huge impact for the causes you care about most. This is a great opportunity to get insider knowledge on these significant tax changes, start to make a plan for you and your family, and enjoy a night at the shelter in good company! Heavy appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.

We expect seats to fill quickly, so RSVP today! Learn more and RSVP for this free event, Monday, April 22, 5-7 p.m., here.

Cat Declawing Banned in Tacoma, Washington Beginning March 31

The Tacoma City Council on December 5, 2023 voted to ban the practice of declawing cats except when conducted by a licensed veterinarian for therapeutic or medical purposes. This groundbreaking decision not only makes Tacoma the first city in the state to put an end to this inhumane procedure but also stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between local government, animal welfare organizations and community.

We are so proud of The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County for championing this ban and being a voice for the animals. We ap-PAW-ed you!
