Paws Across the Pacific Rescue Flight

The sun came out to greet more than 600 Hawaii shelter animals on Wings of Rescue’s historic rescue flight when they touched down at Boeing Field on Thursday morning!

More than a dozen Pacific Northwest shelter partners were also on the ground to greet these pets, including our own wonderful staff and volunteers. Not only were we there to accept 26 cats and 8 dogs into our care, our Chief of Shelter Medicine led a Seattle Humane team MASH Unit to handle any urgent veterinary needs during the transfer process.

Due to COVID-19, this was the first transfer of pets from Hawaii since March 2020. The record-breaking flight has opened up space, resources and temporary housing in Hawaii for more pets in need of shelter and care.

Thanks to the support of our community, we can help in times of need. With the majority of the animals arriving into our care unaltered, our veterinary team will be working long hours this weekend to spay and neuter the cats and dogs before they will be available for adoption in the weeks ahead.
