Save the date for our Grand Opening!
To cap off a huge and transformative year at Seattle Humane, we’re hosting our Grand Opening Party, Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017. We are at the tail end of a 2-year-long construction project and we’d like to show off all of the upgrades to our new facility! We’ve been dreaming about the new shelter for years, and now that it’s finished, it’s time to celebrate. We have a fantastic lineup of activities for Grand Opening, including an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, kitten obstacle course, photo booth, training demonstrations, tours, adoption specials and more! Don’t miss this historic occasion – we’re thrilled to host all of our supporters, celebrate our successes, and welcome a new era of progressive animal welfare. If you purchased a brick or paver for the “Walk of Fame” or a naming opportunity at the new shelter, you’ll be able to see those recognitions in place at Grand Opening. We look forward to your attendance! Learn more here. Life-Saver Rescue Program brings 154 pets from Puerto Rico to safety in Seattle
After Hurricane Harvey struck Texas, we made a commitment to take in 300 pets impacted by natural disaster at our new shelter. We are making good on that promise as we continue transfering in pets from regions impacted by hurricanes and wildfires, all in addition to our Life-Saver Rescue program’s regular transfers from overcrowded in-state shelters. Many animal heroes have emerged over recent months as our shelter staff, volunteers, and animal lovers far and wide have all jumped in to help pets in crisis. At midnight on Oct. 30, Seattle Humane welcomed 154 pets from Puerto Rico – our biggest transfer to date! Thanks to our incredible transfer team and coordination with the Humane Society of the United States, 50 dogs and 104 cats made it safely to our shelter. This transfer would not have been possible without the extra security of our Disaster Fund, which secured another $87,000 at our October “Glow in the Park” walk for the animals.
Earlier in October, a pair of police women – one active and one retired – volunteered their time to drive 19 dogs from Texas to Seattle Humane. Because flying the pets to Seattle wasn’t an option for them, K-9Kare rented a van to make this transfer possible. We are so thankful they could make the trip!
We're incredibly touched by all of the families and animal caretakers who have reached out to us in the wake of natural disaster to send their love to transferred pets and check in on their wellbeing. We owe so much to everyone who decided to adopt, volunteer, foster, donate, or shared our posts on social media during this historic period at our shelter. Stay tuned on Seattle Humane’s Facebook page for more stories! Ways to help our ongoing disasater relief efforts: To donate: - Donate to Seattle Humane’s Disaster Fund to help transfer, care for, treat and place animals who come to us due to natural disasters.
To volunteer: To adopt: - Please continue to check our website for available pets. Checking our social networks at @SeattleHumane is also a great resource for adoptable pets. Due to the number of inquiries, we are unable to respond to questions regarding specific pets.
- We are working diligently to get all of the transferred pets the medical care they need, and will get them to the adoption floor as soon as possible. Remember adopting any pet will help with disaster relief efforts, as it opens up more space for another deserving pet in need.
- We do not accept holds placed remotely on pets and applications are completed in person at our shelter. No reservation or appointment is needed to visit our shelter.
You better watch out – Santa Paws is coming to town! Good cats and dogs are on Santa’s list too! Don’t forget to bring them along to your Santa photos so they can let the jolly fellow know what toys and treats they’d like in their stocking this year. It will take place on Nov. 28 and Seattle Humane has an incredible opportunity this year to help more pets than ever before. We're preparing to deliver on our promise of serving 10,000 pets a year in our new shelter – an ambitious but achievable goal with animal people like you. Here's what we're asking for: - Just 5-10 minutes of your time on Giving Tuesday to share our mission and our message
- Create your post(s), tweet(s), Instagram(s), or pin(s) or use messaging we provide on our website here
- Double your impact by making a donation on Facebook -- Facebook will match #GivingTuesday donations this year up to $50,000 per organization on a first-come, first-served basis
