We raised more than $87,000 at Glow in the Park to support critical pet rescues!

Glow in the Park 2.jpg

An incredible $87,000 was raised at our “Glow in the Park” walk last Saturday at Green Lake Park! We celebrated animals in true Seattle style with a little bit of rain, food trucks, a beer garden, and adorable dogs. Nearly 600 Seattle Humane supporters and their four-legged friends walked the 3-mile trail at to show their support for animal welfare sporting their best costumes and glow-in-the-dark attire. This year’s fundraising walk benefited our Life-Saver Rescue Program, which saves thousands of at-risk animals every year from shelters that don’t have the space or resources to care for them.We want to bridge the gap over the next few days as donations continue to come in to reach our goal of $100,000.

Want to help? You can make a tax-deductible donation here.

Reaching $100,000 will allow us to continue rescuing pets in need with the same strength and efficiency as years before. Thank you to all of the staff, volunteers, donors, and walkers who made Glow in the Park a huge success! With everyone's incredible support, these critical funds will provide food, shelter, and medical care for thousands of orphaned pets.

Save the date for Grand Opening!

We have a big announcement and invitation for you – we’re wrapping up this transformative year with our Grand Opening Celebration on Dec. 9, 2017. Get ready for festive pet adoptions and activities, delicious treats, and informative tours. We have some major facility upgrades and pet adoptions we'd like to celebrate together.

If you’re one of our incredible donors who purchased a brick or paver at the new facility, get ready to see your love set in stone in our new “Walk Of Fame” by the end of the year. Installation begins this month and we’re on schedule to show off the finished product at our Grand Opening. We are excited for these heartfelt momentos to provide a warm welcome for everyone who enters our shelter doors.

We appreciate your patience as we approach the end of construction on campus. Until our new parking lot is ready, visitors will need to use Seattle Humane’s new temporary entrance on SE 32nd street in Bellevue rather than entering on SE Eastgate Way. We have a small gravel lot available for adopters adjacent to the driveway of our temporary entrance.

Would you like to attend an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Seattle Humane’s new facility and learn how you can help ensure Seattle Humane remains the safety net for generations of animals? You’ll be able to see our state-of-the-art veterinary teaching hospital in action and snuggle with some adoptable pets. If you’re interested, please contact Scott Fraser, Seattle Humane’s Planned Giving Director, at scott@seattlehumane.org or (425) 373-5387.

Ask your vet to volunteer for our clinics!

Vets.jpg

We are in great need of Volunteer Veterinarians to assist low-income HIV/AIDS and cancer patients at quarterly clinics for health and wellness of their animals. Vets are not committed to multiple clinics. These clinics focus on basic wellness and include an exam by DVM, vaccines, nail trims, ear cleaning and possible dental scheduling for future dates. These clinics are not intended for emergency care or surgical procedures. Seattle Humane can also provide medications related to the visit (including flea treatment or dewormers). The intent of the clinics is not only to ensure health and wellness of each animal, but also to prevent surrender of animals to the shelter due to inability to pay for basic animal care.

When: November 7, 2017 (tentative)
Where: Regional Animal Services: Kent (in interim until Seattle Humane can utilize new space)
Time Commitment: 5-6 hours

We would be very grateful for any help or referrals to help these wonderful folks and their animals! To learn more and register contact our Community Outreach Coordinator at dayna@seattlehumane.org.

Monty.jpgMeet Monty!

Meet Monty, a good-natured and loving 10-year-old Doberman Pinscher/Retriever mix who can't wait to become your loyal sidekick. This strong guy is social, always upbeat and eager to greet you with a big grin and a wagging nub. Monty is best suited for someone with an active lifestyle. Looking for a hiking or jogging partner? This is your guy! Come meet your new adventure buddy Monty at Seattle Humane today - unconditional puppy love is just an adoption away!

As with all of our dogs, Monty has been neutered, microchipped and behavior tested. He will go home with a certificate for an examination by a King County veterinarian and an identification tag. PLUS, most dog adoptions include 30 days of pet insurance from Trupanion and a training rebate when you complete a dog behavior course - a great way to start off on the right paw!

Introduce to children 10 years and older. Resident dogs are required to visit Monty prior to adoption. Monty would do best in a cat-free home. Please see our adoption advisors for additional behavior information.

Rocco.jpgTrained to perfection

Life with Rocco (formerly known as Marley) has been an incredible experience. He is a perfect dog for us, and after a few weeks of training (Sit Means Sit) and adjusting to his new life, he has grown into the perfect dog! He is well behaved, does well with other dogs and people, and after a few weeks of crate training he no longer has separation anxiety. Rocco is spoiled rotten and loves his almost daily visits to Marymoor Park. He is always full of energy and fits in well with our active lifestyle. Rocco especially enjoys a pig ear or chewing on a bone after a long day at the park or swimming in the lake.

We can’t imagine life without him!

-Erik, Erin and Rocco

Nala.JPGKitten cuteness takes over

We renamed Parcheesi to Nala! She’s doing great and we love her so much.

Nala is very friendly. She loves all her toys and has a lot of energy, so we've been playing with her a lot. She'll have big bursts of energy and run around a ton and then curl up on our laps for a nap. We've had friends stop by to visit with her and she has been friendly to everyone. The only time she gets scared and hides anymore is when there are loud noises. She's a little princess and gets lots of love and attention, even when she wakes us up at 5 a.m. :)

Thank you so much for helping us through the process of adopting Nala! We are so, so happy that she's the kitten we ended up with.

-Akanksha

Welcome to the zoo.jpgWelcome to our zoo

Daisy, now Daisy Mae, is quite the kitty. This is our fourth adoption through Seattle Humane and couldn't be happier to welcome Daisy Mae to our family. We call ourselves the Weed Zoo.

From the moment we started the touching of noses, Daisy Mae decided she was in charge and the dogs knew it. She was fearless and just made the house hers! Not a single hiss or growl from anybody. They are completely bonded and share beds; it’s like it was meant to be.

Daisy Mae is special needs due to crystals. The veterinary team saved her life and made it possible for us to adopt this amazing cat. We want to say a big thank you to the volunteers, staff, as well as the vets and techs at Seattle Humane who help to save animals every day. Daisy Mae was the perfect addition to our family thanks to all of you at Seattle Humane.

-Bryan and Karrie Weed
