An adoption update to be thankful for.

Thank you for giving the lasting gift of love and companionship.
At Seattle Humane, a pet is adopted into a loving home every 15 minutes while our adoption lobby doors are open. Our staff and volunteers work tirelessly—from coordinating lifesaving pet transfers to post adoption check-ins—to provide compassion, care and resources to every pet and person we serve.

We are so thankful to supporters like you who power this work — giving the lasting gift of love and companionship to families and their pets. And we are grateful for the pets we serve, who bring so much joy to their families.

We’re so pleased to share a heartwarming adoption update we recently received with you, our Rescue Squad, about a kitty named Pluto and a little boy that really needed him:

I wanted to take a minute and update you on how Pluto is doing and, more importantly, thank you for the gift you gave our family. We brought our boys with us to Seattle Humane to meet some kittens. Our oldest son was bullied very badly at his school the previous school year and though he was in counseling, he still was struggling with feeling value.

One way we teach our kids to deal with the negativity in this world is to give back. He had been volunteering, which helped his self-appreciation, but those were all short-term assignments and did not bring comfort when left alone with his thoughts. With the overflow of kittens we were hearing about from all over the country, we felt adopting one kitten might help. Truthfully, we went to Seattle Humane thinking we were doing a good deed that would provide some fun distraction in our family.

We had no idea how much one little kitty could give back to our family.

We call Pluto our therapy cat. He cuddles with my son, greets him when he comes home and sleeps with him at night. Pluto has been a gift. The purring, gentle snuggles he offers when my son is feeling bad seem to quickly calm his anxiety and caring for him gives purpose beyond himself to pull him from those moments. Thank you for all you do in providing a gift to so many homes. We can never say thank you enough for our sweet kitty.

Thank you, Pluto, for being this little boy’s light in his dark moments and to you, our supporters, for saving the lives of pets like Pluto and giving them families to love.

We will be sharing more sweet stories like this all day long during a special Giving Tuesday campaign on November 29. Keep an eye on your inbox and social media for stories celebrating resilience, compassion and friendship!

These Pets Are Home for the Holidays, Thanks to You.

This Thanksgiving, from our family to yours, we want to say THANK YOU.

Friends and supporters like YOU make it possible for us to continue saving lives, completing families and keeping pets with the people who love them.

Here are just a few of the pets and their grateful families touched by your support. They are celebrating this holiday season — happy, healthy and together — thanks to you.

Chevy

10-year-old retriever mix
Family helped through Polly’s Pocket Fund

"Chevy has always been an active gal, so when she started limping, I knew something was wrong. I never expected to hear cancer. She adapted so well following the amputation surgery. It must have taken an enormous amount of pain away. It was truly wonderful to receive that donation, the money really added up fast for vet services. I am so blessed to have her. She can continue to chase her toys and go to the ocean!"
— Cathy

Cheeto

One-year-old orange tabby Cheeto was steadily losing weight and could barely eat when our vet team decided to perform emergency exploratory surgery on him. They discovered a quarter-sized plastic button lodged in his small intestine.

Pets who feel compelled to eat non-food items suffer from pica, which can be a lifelong condition requiring careful management of a pet’s environment. Once healed from his surgery, our Adoptions team found a family happy to take on this challenge with Cheeto. He’s thriving in his new home and now goes by the name Larry.

Lobster

This sweet, young Australian cattle dog came to us from Texas with a rare condition known as ectrodactyly or “split hand,” that caused her paw to resemble a lobster claw.

Since the malformed paw provided zero support for this growing pup, Seattle Humane’s skilled vet team determined amputating the leg would be best for Lobster and help her avoid future medical issues, such as chronic pain and arthritis. The surgery was a success, and a few days later she was recovering with her new family. This beautiful tripod dog now goes by Yuna and has a big sister (another Seattle Humane alum) who also has three legs!

Antonia

Supported through Pet Food Bank

“I cannot thank you enough for all that you do for Antonia and me. She was a Mother’s Day gift to me from my daughter. I have disabilities and live on a fixed income. The donations from Seattle Humane’s Pet Food Bank make it possible for me to have my dog and give her decent food. She is a priceless companion for me. I am most sincerely grateful for everything.”
— T.K.

Thank you for supporting Seattle Humane. Your compassion is changing the lives of so many deserving pets. We are grateful for you today and every day of the year!

Giving Tuesday match challenge is in full swing!
Help keep bellies full and families together.

We know pets are important members of the family. We also recognize that many of our neighbors are experiencing food insecurity, and if people are hungry, so are their pets.

Seattle Humane’s Pet Food Bank is keeping bellies full and families together by providing 60,000 meals each month to families and local food banks. This program is powered by the generous support of our community partners and people like you!

Inspired by the spirit of Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving back, a family of Seattle Humane donors has generously offered a donation match — up to $50,000 — through November 29. Don’t wait! Make your Giving Tuesday donation today.

Give hope to local pets in need this season. Help Now. Holiday Drive to Save Lives
We are so thankful for friends like you who give hope and second chances to pets in our community. THANK YOU!

Your donations are vital to the care of pets like Mrs. Mowgly.

An animal control officer found her roaming the streets of Ellensburg, WA. A scared, scraggly dog with one eye and matted fur, dragging a dirty red leash. They found a heartbreaking note pinned to her collar stating that her person had recently passed and she was looking for someone to love.

Thanks to compassionate supporters like YOU —
who understand the urgency of caring for vulnerable pets  we brought her to Seattle Humane's campus for expert veterinary care and a transformational glam up! Not long after, Mrs. Mowgly found that someone to love in a young medical professional looking for a sweet, cuddly companion.

Before your holiday to-do list gets too full, make a gift today to bring hope to pets like Mrs. Mowgly. Your Holiday Drive gift will offer a bright new beginning for the pets who still need help.

Sincerely,
Christopher Ross
