Washington state’s largest online fundraising event, GiveBIG, is right around the corner, and so is kitten season! This year GiveBIG will be May 6-7, with early giving starting on April 22. As the PNW’s largest shelter and pet resource center, Seattle Humane is busy with young pets year-round, but during the spring we see an especially large surge in intakes of young kittens and momma cats. While it’s undoubtedly the cutest time of year, caring for the constant stream of tiny, medically fragile patients is time-consuming and expensive.
The good news? You can help us save them with a donation during GiveBIG!
This year our goal is to raise

Jelly arrived at Seattle Humane through a Lifesaver Rescue transfer on New Year’s Day and has yet to find the right family to take her home. Jelly is a very sweet and affectionate pit bull mix, and she loves going on walks, playing with toys, practicing her training cues and going on field trips with volunteers. Sadly, Jelly experienced physical abuse in a previous home, so she can be fearful and anxious in some new situations or with unfamiliar people. She will need a family that can give her time to settle into her new home and help her continue her training as she transitions from a teen to adult dog. Jelly is highly food-motivated and ready to learn! Due to her extended time at Seattle Humane, her new family can name her adoption . Learn more about Jelly here! You can also share Jelly with your followers on Facebook and Instagram.
Introducing the Daphne Mobile! Seattle Humane welcomed a new vehicle into our lifesaving fleet on April 8. A successor to our beloved MaxMobile, the Daphne Mobile will help us expand our outreach efforts by providing support to families in need and creating new opportunities for community education. A heartfelt thank you to Jennifer L. Lekisch for being our lead sponsor and naming the vehicle after her beloved cat, Daphne.
Seattle Humane’s Advocacy: Ensuring No One Is Left Behind Seattle Humane is continuing to work together with other animal welfare organizations and advocates across the state to help advance legislative efforts that support our broader mission of protecting the overall welfare of animals. We have identified several key issues where we can champion positive change and, at mid-session, several bills are on track to help improve the lives of animals. Visit our blog to learn more about this lifesaving advocacy work and how you can make your voice heard for pets and people down in Olympia!
Foster Spotlight: Sarah Kimblad
Seattle Humane foster parent Sarah Kimblad had been intrigued by the idea of fostering cats for years, ever since being sent a link to a YouTube channel livestream about fostering mama cats and their kittens during the pandemic.
“Don't get hung up on perceived reasons why you can't foster,” she says. “There are many kinds of pets who need fostering, so even if you think you can only foster healthy pets, or small pets, or pets who get along with your dog, that's still one kind of pet you can help feel better, and that makes it worth it.”
Volunteers are involved in almost everything we do here at Seattle Humane. In fact, many of our programs could not exist without their support! Whether they're walking dogs, fostering kittens, packing supplies in our Pet Food Bank, or so much more, they are an essential part of our organization. We are so grateful to the more than 1,000 individuals who lend their time, talents and passion to our mission every year, and we invite our community to join us in celebrating them during Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 20-26!
Welcome, New Board Members!
