Compassion and teamwork are something I see every day at Seattle Humane. These past few weeks have been no different. The morning of September 27, we received an urgent message from Good Flights—a nonprofit partner that evacuates pets in times of danger with lifesaving airlifts—to take in as many pets as possible.
“As Ian bears down on Florida, we make a call, today, for your consideration.”
Our Lifesaver Rescue Program team immediately went into action, coordinating the effort to bring 68 cats, dogs and guinea pigs to our Bellevue campus after their flight landed at Everett’s Paine Field. It is because of you and your compassion for pets that we have been able—and can continue—to quickly respond and help pets affected by natural disasters in a few different ways.
• Provide expert care and treatment plans. Within hours, our veterinary team began assessing the health needs of every pet on the lifesaving flight, conducting over 160 exams and X-rays—ensuring every shelter pet is set up for success.
• Coordinate and support foster placement for pets needing additional care. Several pets came to us needing special attention and time to heal with a foster family. Learn more about fostering a pet.
Our mission is to save and serve pets when they need it most. The Hurricane Ian lifesaving rescue is one of those moments. You make this possible as a supporter and advocate for Seattle Humane. I am so grateful to our staff, volunteers and you—our Rescue Squad. Thank you!
Many of the pets we see this time of year need more than food and a warm bed. They need medical treatment for injuries. They need the comfort of foster families. We need your help to meet the increasing demand for our community programs and services to help pets in need.
Your generosity makes new beginnings like Bubble Guppy's possible — turning sad stories into amazing comebacks.

This lifesaving flight is making room for the ongoing surge of surrendered and homeless pets arriving at animal shelters in the Southeast because of the storm. Watch our team at work here.
We never know where disasters will strike or when pets may need urgent rescue, but we know we must be ready to answer the call for help. Your gift today assists our rescue efforts and provides much-needed food and animal care supplies for the 68 shelter pets saved over the weekend.
Please make an emergency donation to help pets saved from Hurricane Ian’s devastation. Thank you for your compassion and support! You are truly making a difference in the lives of the cats, dogs and critters we serve.
